The standing Buddha is shown in ekansika sanghati (a garment draped over one shoulder). His right hand is in a gesture of protection (abhaya mudra) and the left holds the hem of his sanghati. The slightly bent head and subtle smile add to his benign expression. The webbed palms are in accordance with the Buddhist canon where Buddha is marked with 32 mahapurusha lakshanas (marks of a great being). The type of adhishthana on which this and other images in the Pophanar hoard are mounted comprise of two platforms joined by a recessed moulding. The other common feature in all these is the tenon at the back intended for attaching a chhatra or parasol.
