Gong Jianxin was born in Urumqi, Xinjiang in 1938. He was admitted to the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1956. After graduation in 1961, he was assigned to the Xinjiang Academy of Art to teach. In 1980, he was transferred to the Xinjiang Academy of Fine Arts. He has been invited to teach at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Department of Fine Arts of the Central Academy of Nationalities and the Department of Oriental Art of Nankai University. He is the director of the Chinese Artists Association and the first-level artist of the state that enjoys the special allowance of the State Council. Now he is honorary chairman of Xinjiang Artists Association and honorary president of Xinjiang Painting Academy. He was a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Consultative Conference of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The representative works include comic book "Wanli Send Horses", "Quiet Kafu River", "Yao Chi Hui", Chinese painting "Pamir Spring". His portrait works were selected into the "Centennial Exhibition of Chinese Painting" and compiled into the "Centennial Collection of Chinese Painting". His publications include Gong Jianxin's Character Sketches, Gong Jianxin's Portraits of Traditional Chinese Paintings, Gong Jianxin's Sketchbooks, Gong Jianxin's Portraits of Ink and Wash Characters, Gong Jianxin's Academic School of Calligraphy, and so on.
