Yangzhou, China

Passed down from earlier generations, this flower pot, with its elegant shape, fine porcelain body and thick coating of eye-catching lustrous glaze, is one of the best blue-and-white porcelains produced during the Xuande years (1426-1435 AD). In the shape of four crabapple blossom petals pieced together, it is covered with shadow green glaze both inside and outside. While its exterior wall decorated with intertwining branches of peony flowers, its high base is embellished with blue parallel lines, lotus and cloud motifs.
