In the style of the old graphic artists, the founders of Santiago Cathedral Museum, Don Robustiano Sández and José Larramendi, left a pencil inscription on the lower part of a bench placed in one of the rooms to mark the opening of the museum. The museum would soon feature prominently in the leading travel books of the era. A modest, initial guide to the museum was even published, detailing the works on display.
