Yamaha GS1, FM synthesizer, 1980. Predating the DX7 by three years, this velocity/pressure sensitive 88 key monster brought the new sound of Yamaha FM synthesis to the world, if they could afford the steep five-digit price. Pre-MIDI, sounds were basically uneditable, presets were loaded by a small magnetic strip kept in the books you see on top. Fewer than 100 units were manufactured. This is the Godfather of the Yamaha DX range.
