This print is part of Hiroshige's series "Famous Views of Kyoto". At the time of the series creation, Kyoto was the Imperial capital of Japan. The importance of nearby areas of natural beauty is illustrated in this rural scene. The majority of the prints in this series feature urban scenes or locations within contemporary Kyoto.
