Yash Chopra, the filmmaker with Ms. Ursula Andress, a Swiss Hollywood Celebrity at Swiss Filmfare Awards

Yash Chopra, the revolutionary filmmaker, producer and director, was born on 27th September, 1932. His journey began from the lush green fields of Punjab, which kept reappearing in his films in all their splendour. A trailblazer, he paved the way for Indian Cinema with his of filmmaking and storytelling. He passed away on 21 October 2012 (at the age of 80) leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

His work was acclaimed and celebrated at various occasions and award ceremonies. Yash Chopra was the only film-maker to have won the National Award six times.

He won the Filmfare Award eight times – and was the only director to have won that many – and various other awards, over the span of his career.

The Consulate General of Switzerland in Mumbai announced the first Swiss Filmfare Award, which was presented to Yash Chopra at the glittering 47th Annual Filmfare Awards 2001 function held on 16th February 2002, in Mumbai. This award symbolises the recognition and great respect for his pioneering efforts in bringing Switzerland to Bollywood, by choosing the beautiful Swiss landscapes as a location for most of his films for almost 20 years and for also encouraging many other Indian film makers to follow suit. Switzerland, through this award, acknowledged their gratitude to Yash Chopra and the Indian Film Industry for promoting the natural beauty of this alpine country on such a magnificent scale.

The Swiss Hollywood celebrity, Ms. Ursula Andress presented this special Swiss Filmfare award to producer-director Yash Chopra. Ms. Andress has acted in many international films, not forgetting her famous role alongside Sean Connery in the Bond movie, Dr. No.
