Another variation of portraying Krishna is the Santana-Gopala. The young Krishna is portrayed as lying on the lap of Yashoda and suckling milk from her breast. His face is turned up a little and he looks at his mother’s face. The portrayal is in par as described in the Sritatvanidhi, an illustrated manuscript attributed to Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar III, the well-known ruler of Mysore Princely state.
