Ravi Varma painted many puranic themes on his canvas. One of the most popular and of which he made several versions is that of Yashoda Krishna. The mother and child theme is a perennial one in many cultures and it is apparent in some of Ravi Varma's works that the generic paintings of Madonna and the Child had made an impression on the artist. In the Yashoda Krishna series, he depicts the tender moment of togetherness between the mother and the child.
