Yangzhou Museum

Yangzhou Museum
Yangzhou, China

Unearthed in the construction site of the Trust Tower on Wenhe Beilu, Yangzhou city in 1990, this piece made by Gongxian County Kiln represents the birth of a new technique in the porcelain-making industry of the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD). With an opening rim that expands outwards and a ring-shaped base, this bowl was crafted following two procedures roughly: the molding of pottery body by mixing white and brown clay, and baking after the coating of light yellow glaze. Though having a single-colored base, this bow is embellished with constantly changing wood-grain patterns composed of continuous free-flowing lines.
