Yellow wool suit accessorized with black rayon blouse and black crochet purse, brass jewellery, and black felt hat with black vinylite bow and yellow flowers. When Dwight D. Eisenhower became the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, he redesigned the American uniform, introducing a waist-length jacket that was considered more suitable for combat. The resulting jacket became known as nn 'Ike jacket' that became standard issue for U.S. troops beginning in November 1944. Women's waist length jackets first appeared in 1940, but when the American army adopted the style, they took on the same name.
