Yellowstone Falls

Oil painting on canvas "Yellowstone Falls" by Cyrenius Hall. It is a landscape depicting the waterfalls straight on. Cliffs are in foreground left side of painting with five trees at upper top of cliff. The cliffs provide a framing device for the middle ground of the waterfall. In the lower section of the falls there are rounded hills with one coming to a point with a single tree on top. This layer of hills encompasses the water at the bottom from the waterfall. Further back are rounded hazy tree-covered mountains.

Cyrenius Hall made trips to the West in the 1850’s via the Oregon Trail and painted the scenery. Hall was commissioned by Senator W.A. Clark of Montana for three paintings.
