A chest is called a peti and is used to store clothes and mattresses. Customarily, a peti is given as a gift to the bride in her bridal trousseau from her maternal family in her marriage. This peti was placed in a room near the courtyard of a haveli where the owners no longer live. It was left behind by them and was presently used by the caretaker of the haveli.
