Yoritomo was the founder of the Kamakura shogunate. Yoshitsune is one of the most prominent samurai in Japanese history, known for being a key member of the Minamoto clan.
The print depicts Yoritomo's relentless pursuit, which ended with Yoshitsune's death, although some legends—like the one this print portrays—tell us that he managed to escape by sailing to the distant northern island of Ezo (present-day Hokkaido).
