Under the present stage of Chinese development system and
regulation measures, our cities are becoming the same
appearance. Various massive commercial projects have flooded into our
daily life. In terms of design service, the majority of architects have to
obey the real estate developers and governments operational rules, thus
the works combined with both personal thoughts and the value of social
participation are rare to see. After decades of economic reformation,
countless entrepreneurs have seized the opportunities of Chinese
manufacturing development and accumulated abundant strength.
The manufacturer supports this project with independent input,
remodeling the traditional industrial zone to provide public space for
citizens and visitors. In such unofficial position, the more flexibility would
arouse the interactive communication between Chinese manufacturing
and ordinary citizens, as well motivate the eyes on architectural design,
environmental conservation and regional development. We hope to
integrate resource of manufacturing into the social power finally, and
make a further cultural influence for current China.
The whole project not only conveys the transformation ability and vision
of Chinese traditional manufacturing through design, but also will update
the impression of Chinese manufacturing and promote the thought of
Chinese architecture to change.
This project is located in southern China, also called the homeland of fish
and rice since ancient times. The planning strategy implants the concept
of “Growth Ring” into the activities based on traditional 24-solar-terms,
which builds a multi-functional space including headquarter office,
manufacturing production, accommodation, exhibition, entertainment
and experiential zone. Thus, it will return to the original nature and
redefine the lifestyle of southern China. In this campus, there is a
small river flowing through the east-west direction and connecting the
separated space. A pedestrian system has been planned on the northsouth
trending of that, the building on this axis will have different
functions match up experience needs. Most of the north plot will be the
production and office base, while headquarter office and life support
building will be along the riverside. The designer village is located on the
south plot and there is an octahedron exhibition gallery surrounded by
seven smaller buildings for open sightseeing and visit program for social
public. This campus is a proving ground with social utility, what is more,
it explore some possibilities for the design cooperation.
