This image came into the National Archives’ collection as part of a copyright application for an artistic work entitled ‘Young Australia’ in 1921. The photographer’s name was Albert Bellier de Villentroy, who had a studio on Hunter Street, Sydney, in the early 1920s.
The girl pictured is the photographer’s daughter, Marie-Celeste de Villentroy. The State Library of New South Wales has what appears to be the original finished work, which shows Marie-Celeste in the Australian Red Ensign flag.
