A pastel drawing by the Malawi-born, South African artist Pieter Gerhardus (Piet) van Heerden (1917-1991). This drawing of a young woman in a mint green blouse was donated by the artist to the University of Pretoria in 1947. Short Biography: Pieter Gerhardus van Heerden was born in 1917 in Nyasaland, today Malawi. He immigrated to South Africa in 1927 and studied for a short period of time under the artist, Hugo Naude but was mostly a self-taught artist. From 1952, Van Heerden was a lecturer at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in Cape Town. Van Heerden passed away in 1991 in Somerset West in the Western Cape.
