This work is probably a portrait of the young actress Gabrielle Colonna-Romano (real name Dreyfus), a pupil of Sarah Bernhardt.
She modelled for several works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (Limoges, 1841 – Cagnes-sur-Mer, 1919) and had an affair with his son Pierre, also an actor and the elder brother of the film director Jean Renoir.
Cerruti bought the painting in London at a Sotheby’s auction in 2014 after visiting a Renoir exhibition at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GAM) in Turin. "Jeune fille aux roses" was the last work to enter the Cerruti Collection.
