FINDING A PLACE IN THE SUN FOR YOUR HOUSE. British architects are going to school again. It has been arranged by the Government that a number of them shall take a "refresher" course at the building section of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research at Garston, four miles from Watford. Here the experts do not work with bricks and mortar, or blue prints. They use lots of gadgets. They can tell you where to build your house to make the most of the sun, how much light a wall or room will get in a year and determine the amount of window space required. They also experiment with flat roofs, damp walls paint and concrete etc. Photo shows:- The most ingenious instrument at the Research Station. It provides a means of examining, by means of models, the amount and duration of sunshine at all seasons of the year. The rays of a small lamp (on right) fall on rotating board in centre (representing a house or room). FOX JANUARY 12th. 1933
