Zelkova carpinifolia

The Siberian Elm, also known as the false Siberian Elm, is a large tree with a short, wide trunk and a bushy top composed of numerous upright branches. It is hardy and native to the Transcaucasian regions where its hard, durable, pinkish wood is used for building and making objects. Its deciduous leaves are simple, oblong, acute, coarsely toothed and up to 9cm long, with an attractive orange-brown tinge in autumn. Unisexual flowers appear in April, followed by small capsule fruits containing 1 seed each that ripen in autumn.
