German zeltbahns from World War II could be used as a poncho, tent, camouflage, and stretcher. Private First Class John Lee Meyer, Jr. of Phillipsburg, Kansas obtained this one while serving in the U.S. Army. The recipient of both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, Meyer was assigned after the war to design the architectural model for the Palace of Justice in preparation for the Nuremberg Trails.
Like other U.S. states and regions across the globe, Kansans have served and died in war. The Kansas Museum of History aims to remember them through what they left behind. To see more from our collection please visit: https://www.kshs.org/kansapedia/wars/14569
