Zenobia hunting

The Chapter Hall houses the tapestry series “Zenobia, Queen of Palmyra”, woven in Brussels by Geraert Peemans circa 1667. These eleven panels narrate the life of Queen Zenobia and her defeat at the hands of the emperor Emperor Aurelian. This particular tapestry depicts the Queen of Palmyra hunting.
Hung on the left side wall, measuring 3.82 m wide by 3.93 m long, Zenobia reappears, accompanied by three servants and scouts, hunting deer, bears, and even lions. This tapestry highlights the grandeur of Zenobia, dressed with jeweled trimmings, in a half-ellipse composition that begins with the servant on the right side holding two hunting dogs.
