The mock-up of the Dohány Street Synagogue

Miklós Rosenberg (1904–1945) aspired to become an architect. Because of the anti-Jewish measures he could not go to university, so he studied to be a tinsmith. Already during the war, in 1942 he started to prepare the tin mock-up of the Dohány Street Synagogue. In 1943 he was drafted into forced labour, so the work was interrupted. Miklós Rosenberg’s company was sent to the east, to the Ukrainian front. He died on April 8 of 1945 in Korosten. The completed part showing the facade of the Synagogue of the uncompleted model was donated by his daughter to the Hungarian Jewish Archives in 1984 and after the union of the archives and the museum, it became part of the museum’s collection.
