«The Striped Horse» tapestry from «The New Indies» series was used to decorate the Upper Throne Hall of Paul I.
All the tapestries in the Gatchina Palace collection were gifts from King Louis XVI of France to future Emperor Paul I and his wife Maria Feodorovna. The presents were given to the couple, when they travelled around Europe under the name of Count and Countess Severny.
According to the wish of Paul I the tapestries were used as an element of decoration in the most important State Hall of the Gatchina Palace since 1796.
