Álvaro Leiro's work is based on his deep connection with the culture of Galicia. His intention is to preserve and revive ancient forms of craftsmanship, transmitting their beauty and value through contemporary pieces. Álvaro's sources of inspiration are his roots and his journey of learning in search of ancestral techniques. He is inspired by his homeland, Galicia, and his journey of learning about the ancient crafts of the region.
His first intention was to rescue the spiral weave, a technique used since ancient times to make large baskets and containers. With his skill and mastery, he developed his own techniques to apply spiral stitching to new pieces and designs. In his workshop in Moscoso, Pontevedra, Álvaro has learnt to weave rye straw and blackberry strips, giving life to traditional baskets that capture the essence of his homeland. His work stands out for its technical and aesthetic quality, attracting the attention of fashion brands that see in his talent an opportunity to combine the old with the new.
