İstanbul Limanı / İstanbul Port

Koleksiyon’daki 1930 tarihli “Şevket 1930” imzalı İstanbul Limanı peyzajındaki imza, yeni harflerle yazmanın kurallarıyla birlikte yerleştiği bir dönemde yapıldığından Türkçe atılmıştır. Dumanını savurarak İstanbul Limanı’ndan çıkmakta olan bir şilebi merkeze alan tablo, özellikle gökyüzünü kaplayan beyaz bulutlarla dingin denizin işlenişiyle empresyonist yaklaşımdadır. Geminin yanından İstanbul denizlerinin bir parçası olan bir büyük mavna geçer. İki tekne arasında seyreden küçük sandal içindeki iki figür, yalnızca bir ayrıntı gibi durmasına karşın tuvale insan varlığı katan ve onu canlandıran bir dokunuştur. The signature on the 1930-dated landscape Istanbul Port, signed “Şevket 1930” and held in the Collection, is written in Turkish using the new Latin alphabet, reflecting the period when the rules of the new script had just become established. Centered around a steamship exiting Istanbul Port with smoke billowing from its funnel, the painting employs an impressionist approach, particularly evident in the depiction of the calm sea and the white clouds filling the sky. A large barge, characteristic of Istanbul’s waters, passes beside the ship. Between the two vessels, a small rowboat carrying two figures sails by—seemingly a mere detail, yet it adds a human presence to the canvas and breathes life into the scene. In the background, a fragment of Istanbul’s iconic silhouette unfolds: the Galata Tower and its surroundings, the Galata Bridge, and farther back, the Süleymaniye Mosque.
