Ștefan Golescu (1809–1874) was a significant Romanian politician, Prime Minister of Romania between 1867 and 1868, and a key leader of the 1848 Wallachian Revolution. The son of scholar Dinicu Golescu, he studied in Switzerland and pursued a career in the military before dedicating himself to political and revolutionary activities. He was a member of the Provisional Government of 1848 and an active supporter of the Unification of the Principalities. After exile, he contributed to the political and administrative organization of the country, serving as deputy, minister, and prime minister. During his tenure, important laws were passed, and infrastructure projects, such as building a railway network, were initiated. He was a strong advocate of democracy and national culture, encouraging writers to create works accessible to all. He passed away in 1874, before the complete unification of liberal factions.
