Margaret Austrian was the spouse of the King of Spain, Philip III, who was at the same time his cousin. This happy married couple had eight children, among them was Philip IV, the future king of Spain. But Queen Margaret is known in the country not with her family happiness, but with the decisive character and perseverance with which she fought for years with the powerful Duke de Lerma. It was the duke who was the real ruler of Spain, unlike the sluggish and little interested in the politics of the king.
