‏‏‎ Barcelos chicken

National Museum of Archaeology

National Museum of Archaeology
Lisboa, Portugal

decorative pottery in this town and the entire surrounding region. Since the middle of the
twentieth century, mainly as political propaganda, the rooster has become an icon of
Portuguese identity for folk craft - but its roots and authenticity run much deeper.
