Extraordinary project in an Oriental style for the courtyard of the house of Emídio Navarro in Buçaco. The walls of the ground floor are covered in polychrome patterned tiles, to create a panelling effect, and blue and white tiles depicting scenes and framed by Mudéjar arches. In the centre is a fountain, also clad in colourful tiles, including a bed for plants and two fish tanks. Two large pots from Caldas da Rainha topped by lanterns and a lantern hanging from a wrought iron dragon provide artificial light. An insert shows the geometric ‘star’ motif corresponding to the tile pattern of Moorish inspiration, also created by Bordalo Pinheiro.
