“Dormition of the Mother of God”

Images have an important part to play in the Christian-Orthodox faith. Icons are understood as representations of ‘heavenly archetypes’ and hence created in accordance with strict liturgical rules. They are provided as paintings on wood or reverse paintings on glass, but also as basreliefs made from metal or beads.
