"Petroleum" is inspired by the unfinished work of the same name by Pier Paolo Pasolini, which probes the radical and underground transformations of social, urban and natural landscapes.
Giuseppe Biscaglia and Francesco Scaringi, curators of the project co-produced by Basilicata 1799, in this project of extraction, explore the various terrestrial stratifications through theatre, dance and performing arts in order to reflect upon the relationship between humans and nature in the Anthropocene age, the new geological era in which the equilibrium of our planet depends on the human behaviour. In “Figures” by Maria Hassabi, four dancers perform solos made up of abstract poses, which attempt to reproduce an emotional narrative through the dancers’ relationship with temporality and mutual proximity, in an infinite resonance which ends up involving everything around them.
And just like Matera, the bodies are shown to those who are trying to discover the roots and desires of matter and of its stratifications.
