Snoop Dogg (born Calvin Broadus Jr.), a protégé of N.W.A.’s Dr. Dre, became one of the breakout stars of the newly formed Death Row Records, cofounded by Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, The D.O.C. and Dick Griffey. Death Row established the West Coast rap scene and popularized the G-funk subgenre of gangsta rap. Two of the label’s iconic records included The Chronic by Dr. Dre (1992) and Doggystyle by Snoop Doggy Dogg (1993), which debuted at Number One on the Billboard chart and became the fastest-selling hip hop album ever at that time. “Dr. Dre, just sonically, hit hip hop where it needed to be,” Ice-T said. “The power of The Chronic was not only in the production, but he [also] debuted so many people. ...He really put his stamp on what West Coast music sounded like. Dre is, to me, the number one producer in the world. He’s our Quincy Jones.” "The LBC and the ING" was featured on Snoop's album The Recipe.
