Lermontov’s relatives and friends were participants in the war of 1812, and their memoirs were often heard at this time in Moscow drawing rooms. The theme of war with the French figured in the work of the young Lermontov. Here, in Moscow, he wrote the poem “The Field of Borodino”, the first version of the famous poem “Borodino”.
