This artifact is a druggist bottle. It was recovered from the block on the northeast corner of Simcoe Street and Adelaide Street West, in Toronto. The excavation was conducted in 2007 by Archaeological Services Inc. (ASI). The glass bottle bears embossed marking identifying its content as “Mrs. Winslow’s Soothing Syrup”, made with morphine and alcohol, which was marketed as a treatment for the problems of teething infants and first commercially produced in 1849.
