Kyoto Prefectural Domoto-Insho Museum of Fine Arts
Kyoto, Japan

The Insho Domoto Museum of Fine Arts was established by Insho himself and opened in October 1966. In constructing the museum, Insho is said to have sought to embody his original aesthetic sensibility, with inspiration from the museums occupying former palaces and private residences that he had visited in Europe in 1952. The museum thus completed was in itself Insho's original work of plastic art, from the external walls and the porch to the pillars, the foyer, the window frames, and interior decorations. The many sketches drawn for the museum wall and interior decorations are full of Insho's creative energy dedicated to perfecting a unique space of fine arts. The decorative motifs seen in the sketches can be still found inside the museum today.
