"Hishō"

This basket is woven using two different color bamboo strips interlaced into shapes of flying birds, which gives the technique its name “chidori” (plover). By having the pattern in both the bottom and the sides, it is almost as the birds are flying in the sky. The cross frame uses bamboo darkened with smoke (susudake) to add depth to the piece.
