This endemic species described in 2008 under a collaborative research project of the National Museum of Natural Science and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) has a scattering distribution in the southern part of the Central Mountain Range. Its first collecting locality is Mt. Dahan. This species is named in honor of Dr. Cheng-En Chang (1920~2005) of NPUST. He devoted over 50 years of his life to the study of the flora of Taiwan and the offshore Orchid Island, especially on the family of Elaeocarpaceae, Eriocaulaceae, Lauraceae, and so on.
