The traditional pottery making techniques in the Paiwan tribe have all but disappeared. However, some ancient pottery vessels have been preserved. In the Paiwan tradition, pottery vessels with snake patterns or geometrical patterns were used as betrothal gifts or ceremonial objects. They usually belonged to the nobility and were symbols of social status and wealth.
