This is a mask for a god or a spirit. The eyes with inserted golden rings symbolize its mysteriousness, and its bold eyebrows and upward-rising mustache symbolize its fortitude. The Mikazuki mask was originally used for the roles of gods that often wear the Kantan-otoko mask at present. It portrayed a god as an awesome, rigid being.
