Taichung, Taiwan

The Miao people of Basha live in an area of dense mountain forest. They hunt and cultivate terraced fields by techniques learned from the Dong people. According to the legend, the Miao people of Basha are the descendants of the third son of Chi You, a mythical king. Young women usually wear a wooden comb in their hair, a collarless shirt with embroidering and batik decoration, and a batik-style pleated skirt. Besides, up to 10 heavy silver necklaces are worn around the necks.
