Hubei Provincial Museum

Hubei Provincial Museum
Wuhan, China

This is a prince's helmet. The entire helmet would have been wrapped in linen secured with glue and painted red. The rear of the helmet is rounded and there is one concave depression on each of the two sides at the front. The top is pointed and there is a "visor" at the base. A cover of 12 iron bars about 1.5cm in width was welded inside. The character "勇", meaning bravery, was painted on the front of the iron helmet in gold powder.
