Sleeveless Garment

Baeja is a sleeveless vest that was worn over the upper garment such as jeogori. It was also called musueui, meaning a vest with no arms. The design and name of baeja differed according to the era. In the Joseon Dynasty, it had a symmetrical or U-shaped collar, and its sides were often left open. It did not have an outer collar, sleeves, or breast ties, and it was tied up with the long strings or buttons under the armpits.
