The long-tailed goral usually inhabit rugged mountain areas or steep rocks rarely accessible to other animals, and they have a way of staying in one place for life. With its population size in Korea drastically on the decrease, it has been designated and protected as Natural Monument No.217 and Endangered Wild Species Class I of Korea. The Ministry of Environment is operating endangered species restoration projects to help the species form a stable population in the wildlife and secure its genetic diversity.
