The head of the hairpin is modeled after a dragon holding the magic pearl in its mouth. The mouth, filled with red beeswax, has a red glass bead inside, but only small portion of the bead is visible. The dragon’s eyes are made with two small pearls and the body is gold plated. Usually placed at the back of the large ceremonial wig, this dragon hairpin is much longer than a typical hairpin, so a wide hair ribbon could be rolled on both sides and hung loosely in front of the wig.
