This is a tool designed to be held in bed while sleeping as a cooling device, and is woven with bamboo into a long, cylindrical shape. Its length is generally equal to the height of an adult, a suitable size to be held close while sleeping. Since the inside of the jukbuin is hollow, it is an effective aid for ventilation purposes. In addition, since the surface of bamboo is cool to the touch, it alleviates the summer heat when placed under the sheet while sleeping. It is made by weaving bamboo strips with holes in its cylindrical body, and the ends are folded without any protruding edges. The bamboo must be well trimmed to eliminate any fuzz or splinters. The only processing applied to it is to grill it over charcoal to add color in order to prevent any pigments from being washed out or smearing the user due to sweat.
