TRANSFORMATION OF COLLECTIVE SPACES: PUBLIC SPACES, THE REFLECTION OF DEMOCRACY

The co-creative territorial strategy incorporates a high level of conversation with the inhabitants of each community, listening to their needs, guaranteeing the quality of citizen participation and collective construction. We have prioritized the humanization of the public space and social approach to vulnerable sectors, implementing architecture and urban planning as a tool for responsible social transformation. Rionegro the Color of our History is a public-private alliance between the Mayor’s office of Rionegro 2016-2019 and the Pintuco Foundation for the revitalization of the city’s historical center, with citizen participation integrated throughout the transformation of its facades, generating a recovery that is voluntary and participative. This collective approach to construction is the motor of the project since its primary purpose is to generate pride in the citizens, contributing to building back a sense of belonging; along with the pedestrianization of the streets and the recovery of the public space. TABUÚ reactivated and recovered public spaces in Bucaramanga that had been abandoned for decades and where deep social damage has been produced by corruption and clientelism (our methodology ‘Building New Social Landscapes’, Iván Acevedo G., Mayerly Medina Ch.). This project considered mainly four areas of transformation in planning and building the public spaces,
in line with the following principles:
1) high quality equipment in the public spaces
2) harmony between the environment and the city
3) sustainable mobility
4) integrated planning, following the guidelines from the New Urban Agenda for sustainable urban development
