Pantry Chest

This is a clothes chest used to store clothes, and was generally placed in the main room and used by women. It varied in size, from chests with a single tier to those with four tiers, whereas two and three tiers were the most common. Its height was determined by the ceiling height as well as convenience for putting in and taking out clothes. The chest shown here has sparse decorations and exhibits the natural wood grain. Right below the top board, there are four pieces of board, only two of which at the end are drawers with bow-shaped metal handles. On each tier, hinged doors are connected with circular hinges, and rectangle-shaped metal decoration is attached on the front. A wooden board is affixed on each side of the hinged doors, below which there are four other boards. The legs and pillars are made from the same piece of wood, and there are crossing wood bars on the bottom connecting each pair of legs, and decorative carved wood plates attached under the body and between the legs.
