Ox-horn Case

This case is decorated in flower and bird patterns using the Hwagak(ox horn) technique. Ox horn was sliced as thin and translucent as possible and the reverse side of the ox horn was painted in splendid colors. The prepared ox horn was then attached on the surface of wood. Surface of this case was painted in red and completely covered with the ox-horn pieces with painted designs of various animals and plants, such as tiger, rabbit, deer, turtle, carp, bird, lotus flower, pine tree, peony, and spirit mushrooms.
