Chesterfield is in the northeasternmost part of the county and is 13 miles west of Burlington, Vermont, 16 mi south of Plattsburgh, 77 mi south of Montreal, Quebec, and 144 mi north of Albany.
The town is entirely inside the Adirondack Park.
